SYNTHESIS

An exploratory publication model for evidence-first analysis
Information Integrity in Media

As distinctions between analysis, commentary, and persuasion become less clear in modern media environments, public trust in informational integrity can weaken. Synthesis is an exploratory publication concept examining whether structured analytical publishing can provide a lower-noise alternative.

Market Differentiation

New Zealand has factual and opinion-based journalism, but relatively little structured analytical publishing explicitly designed to minimise persuasive framing and maximise evidentiary transparency. Even among qualified analysts, analytical consistency and evidentiary framing can still vary significantly.

Proposed Model

Synthesis would be explicitly marketed around the idea of delivering two key attributes:

  • A zero-opinion, analysis-only publication

  • A fusion of human-driven analysis and AI-assisted editorial oversight

Humans would generate analytical inquiries and editorial drafts, with AI assisting the consistent application of methodological standards. The AI governance layer operates within human-defined methodological standards, supporting the publication’s anti-persuasion and evidentiary consistency framework, identifying potential persuasive framing or unsupported inference.

Article Example
Common analysis framing: ambiguity or bias potential
Party X has released minimal policy, and has not managed to improve much in polls.
Proposed analytical framework: unambiguous

Party X has released policy 1 & 2, and signalled openness towards policy 3. This represents lower policy signalling overall compared to other parties, but with increased core policy commitment.

The graph below clarifies Party X’s polling trend relative to other parties.

Current Outreach

Preliminary discussions with an AI governance researcher affiliated with the University of Oxford have identified a plausible pathway toward a structured prototype and formalised editorial review framework.

Perspectives are invited from experts in publishing, trust governance, and analytical media.
